Albion Lodge was originally constructed as a small and complete pavilion, embellished at the front and neat at the back.
Inevitably the development of domestic offices entailed piecemeal extensions during the 19th Century and, eventually, major extension in the late 20th Century including the partial removal of the service wing at ground floor.
Our design interventions proposed re-construction in such a way that the original form of the lodge could be revealed and appreciated.
The partially reconstructed ground floor extension is spaced away from the lodge by a clear glass roof whilst the original service wing wall line was preserved and extended backwards, clarifying its original relationship with the Lodge.
Inside, all original features were retained and new areas were designed to be sympathetic to the age of the building albeit contemporary elements were introduced as part of the kitchen and bathroom designs.
The result is a beautiful family home for contemporary living that respects the history of the site.
