We were invited by the Institute of Directors to undertake the quinquennial redecoration of their magnificent building on Pall Mall. Originally designed by John Nash as the United Services Club in 1828 it is one of the gems of Regency London.
In addition to routine re-painting, a complete audit of the stucco was undertaken; long un-identified areas of water ingress were diagnosed and remedied; and supplementary rainwater disposal was introduced, ensuring the longevity of both internal and external finishes. The flourish was reinstating a classical Della Robbia blue to the background of the great frieze.
During remedial works to one of the balconies a fascinatingly rare form of hollow pot vaulting was discovered.
